The next general type of floor plan is the peninsula kitchen. The peninsula in these floor plans is used as an extra work area or a breakfast bar.

In galley kitchen floor plans the cabinets, counter space and appliances are alined on two walls that are usually parallel. L-shaped kitchens are the fifth type in which the shape is self-explanatory but it also provides ample work space and great functional flow. The last of the six general kitchen floor plans categories is an island kitchen plan. In these floor plans the kitchen is large enough to have a center island and still allow comfortable moving room between all counter areas. Island kitchen floor plans, if they are designed with enough space, provide a good work triangle.

Each of these kitchen floor plans are only overviews and general ideas to go by when designing your kitchen plan. You can browse through plans available online that will have varying creations of all of these. While you are gathering information about kitchen floor plans and making decisions for your kitchen, always remember to put function before style. Both function and style can be accommodated but you must first have a well-rounded work area before adding style.
